My first Jodi Picoult book and I’m kicking myself for not having picked up any of her books sooner. This book was recommended by a good bookstagram friend of mine plus the story totally intrigued me.
Ruth Jefferson, a highly competent black nurse, was warned to keep away from a new born baby whose parents are white supremacists. Certain unexpected events led her to be the only one available when the same baby goes into cardiac distress and eventually dies. She is then arrested for negligence and murder, supposedly because of her race.
It was really hard for me to put the book down and I devoured it in two days on a weekday! A gripping story which is narrated by three POVs, Ruth, her lawyer Kennedy and the father Turk, showing us through the book their past, what they feel and why they have made the decisions they made.
No matter who or what you are, you are bound to relate to something in the book, whether it’s historical, racial, political or religious. It also makes you reflect about the choices you make, put yourself in other people’s shoes and think hard before taking action.
One of the best books I’ve read so far this year which I have easily given a 5 star to. Pick it up and I dare you to put it down once you start.

Hi–If this was your first book by Jodi Picoult, you picked a wonderful one. It is the best book I’ve read in a very long time and like you read it in two days. And you will love her other books as well. She’s definitely one of my favorite authors.

I just finished “Salem Falls” and liked it. “House Rules,” “The Storyteller,” “The Pact,” “Nineteen Minutes,” “Plain Truth.” They are all really good. I started “Handle With Care” and it seems to be good also. But yes, “Small Great Things” is fantastic.
