This right here is a book I have not hesitated to pick up once I’ve read the synopsis. I’m a big fan of historical fiction and I was more intrigued when I found out that it’s based in Nigeria.
Yigide and Akin have met in university, fell in love and got married. In a time where polygamy was common and expected, they have agreed that it’s always going to be only the two of them.

Four years into their marriage, Yigide was not able to bear any children even after many doctor consultations and treatments, thus causing Akin’s family to convince him to take another wife. Yigide is beyond herself with anger and frustration which got her determined to get pregnant before the second wife. She succeeded but the price she had paid was far more than she had expected.

A hard to put down book, full of emotions and twists, I did not know whether to sympathize with the characters or hate them. They were so real that I felt they were just living right next door to me.

A powerful storyline that talks about culture, human choices, family and the sacrifices we make for our loved ones.
This for sure would make the perfect addition to your TBR. I totally recommend to add it to your shelfie.
