I picked up this book, knowing absolutely nothing about Alexander Hamilton. Then I googled and found out that it was actually a musical Broadway based on an American statesman and one of the founding fathers of the United States.
But, the book is loosely based upon that and it is mainly focusing on the love story between Alexander Hamilton and Eliza.
Ah! The love story.
The main and utter reason why I have picked it up especially when I was in such a mood to read something romantic.
And boy was I disappointed!
.
I seriously cannot think of a single good thing to say about it. I have no idea how I made it through the whole book. It looked like something I would have probably added it to my DNF shelf.
But finished it I did. *applause
Romance aside, I thought I would at least get to know about some kind of history about Hamilton or understand what the hype is all about. Instead, it was mainly a battle of a mother with her daughters and about marrying rich.
I did not appreciate the old-fashioned writing and I couldn’t help but compare it to Jane Austen – I know! It’s so unfair of me, but that was the kind of style I think the author was trying to achieve.
I wouldn’t really recommend it. It was not my type of books. I didn’t really enjoy it and I’m not sure who to recommend to anyway even if I was asked.
