Colleen Hoover is my go to whenever I feel like I’m in a reading slump. My love for her books immediately reminds me why I love to read and why I should pick up a book right now!

Her books always have a way to grip you from the start, gets you connected to her characters and you can’t help but root for each and every one of them. And that was the case with Slammed.

Slammed follows the story of Layke, who after her father’s death had to move from Texas to Michigan with her Mom and brother. Upon arriving there, she immediately hits it off with their neighbor, Will, and had an incredible first date that involved slam poetry.

I seriously had no idea what Slam poetry was, but after reading this book, I think I would love to attend one.

Anyway, even though they have it hit off and they have an amazing connection and of course attraction, a shocking revelation affects their relationship and they must find a way to get past that.

It’s hard to talk about the book without posting some spoiler so I’m just going to be vague about it and just urge you to pick it up. Especially if you love poetry.

I have also read the second book of the series but have found it lacked the emotional intensity of the first one. Would I read the third book of the series?

Naah, I don’t think so. I was truly satisfied with just Slammed.

  1. Oh, poetry slams are the *best*! I absolutely recommend finding one in your area. I’m not a poet, but I attend a lot of local poetry events, because I love supporting local artists and they’re just so much fun. I’d pick up this book based on that setting/subject matter alone 😀

  2. Slam poetries are one of a kind and I’m in love with them..
Though ‘This Girl’ is not better than The Point of retreat. But still it talks about the aftermath. *Spoilers*
Their marriage, their bestfriends shifting in their former house and surely their 13year old neighbour
